Chores Your Home Will Thank You For

Now that we’ve caught a break from the cold weather, it’s time to end your hibernation and get to work on your home! Although we’re not out of the woods yet, do your home a favor and take care of these few minor steps to get ready for spring and summer.

1. Clean Your Gutters – Although on the surface they may not seem too important, your gutters are crucial to the structural integrity of both the interior and exterior of your home. When debris clogs your gutters, water overflows and settles near the base of your exterior where it can cause significant damage to your siding and foundation and also attract a slew of pests.

2. Clean Your Windows & Door Screens – Eliminate dirt, dust, and grime by applying ammonia, dish detergent, and water to your window screens and let them air dry to maximize freshness in your home.

3. Check Openings in Seals Around your Windows or Doors – Speaking of windows and doors, a tight seal around your window is a good thing. If gaps exist, it’s probably time to call a professional to get the job fixed. Failure to do so means an uptick in energy costs, as extra reliance on your HVAC system equates to skyrocketing bills come summer.

4. Repair Any Cracked or Peeling Paint – Paint peels for many reasons. And usually problems create a snowball effect of sorts: a chip leads to a crack, a crack leads to a bigger crack, and so on. To stop this problem in its tracks, patch up any imperfections to the best of your ability. If these issues continue, contact a professional to take a look. It may be time to replace your siding!

Taking preventative measures by fixing these issues can save you big bucks in replacement costs!
